It’s been two days since we completed our 21 day detox.

On Friday we went to a local Mexican restaurant. The chips and salsa were great. This restaurant’s particular salsas were what I’d been thinking about for three weeks. And the salsa bar did not let me down. Each sauce was as good as I’d remembered/imagined during the 21 days.

One interesting thing to note was I ate a lot less chips than I usually would. I simple sated my taste a lot sooner and felt fuller a lot faster. This was good because chips really pile on the calories.

After dinner I didn’t feel particular bad. Yes, my body knew I’d eaten something that was very different than what I’d been eating the past three weeks, but I didn’t feel sick. And I slept well that night too.

Saturday night was a completely different case, however…

I made chili with ground turkey and tomatoes from our garden. I had one bowl and didn’t eat too much. I didn’t make it particularly spicy and only used half of the chili seasoning in the bag (I used Carroll Shelby’s chili kit).

That night I was sick as hell. My stomach had tied itself into a knot and I was having constant hallucinatory dreams that I couldn’t wake up from. I don’t know if it was the ground turkey or chili powder or both.

I’d had chili before and never experienced anything like that. Most likely, it was the ground turkey, as I don’t think I’ve ever had ground turkey before.

Anyway, I’m feeling a lot better today. I made a batch of fresh salsa and bought a bag of organic blue corn chips. They taste great, almost as good as the chips from the Mexican restaurant.

I got to thinking about the two staples that really carried me through the 21 days. Everyone’s going to be different, but here’s what really got me by:

    1. Peanuts. Dry roasted, unsalted, still in the shell. I had about 20 (40 peanuts) a day. These nuts did so much to stave off the hunger and eliminate the feeling I was subsisting off grass clippings and water, especially during the early days. Some people have trouble digesting peanuts. I do not. I felt great after eating them and never had a problem. That said, I probably would have lost a couple more pounds if I stayed off the peanuts, but I would have been so miserable and angry on the diet it wouldn’t have been worth it.

    2. Hippocrate’s  broth. This stock tasted great and like the peanuts really made me feel good. Unlike the peanuts, there was no guilt factor and I could make as much of this as I wanted. I believe there were some days where I made 2 or 3 batches daily.

Juice was not a mainstay for me. I just didn’t like it. It felt like drinking blood; it was too thick, even when I watered it down. I actually got to the point where I could just think of carrot juice and I’d gag to the point of dry heaving. (Though juice I made with just celery and lime juice and water was very refreshing.) I stuck largely with smoothies and broths.

Leah and I will be supplying a few more recipes as well as reporting how we’re doing now that we’re off the diet. So stick around!

We really hope you’ll join us on the program, which is available now in its final, definitive format. We’ve been getting great questions for a decade and this final version answers every possible question that could arise, along with including daily support emails to keep you focused and on track.

We have two videos for you today. One is our day 14 report, and the other is a video of our son James eating blended salad.

We also fixed the sign-up form below so be sure to sign up for updates as well as be the first to hear when our newly revised 21 day program is released.

Yes, it looks like baby food and tastes even worse. But it’s packed full of nutrients. If you have trouble getting blended salad down, try dipping Ezekiel bread or bible bread in it.

Here’s the refined and refined again version of Chet’s favorite recipe for the blended salad:

    4 Romaine lettuce leaves
    1 medium tomato
    1 half avocado
    3 stalks of celery
    1 medium carrot
    1 small zucchini
1 Fuji apple (peeled and quartered)
Any other veggies you have handy
    Lemon juice to taste
1/2 tsp sea veggies like kelp or dulse (optional)

Put tomato and avocado in blender and blend. Then add lettuce, carrots, and other ingredients, pushing down with celery stalk. Blend until smooth and then eat like a cold soup. Looks awful but tastes wonderful.

If it doesn’t taste good to you, try again with a whole avocado or experiment with the ingredients until you find what suits your taste buds. Don’t give up with the first try. Blended salads are great when you find the right recipe for your tastes!

Finally, please join us on the 21 day adventure!
