Healthy Energy Drink
Instead, the next time you need a boost, try this fantastic spinach smoothie that I learned about several years ago from a raw foodist named Scott Stollwerk.
Believe me, once you try it, it's a healthy energy drink that you'll make several times a week thereafter.
There's an interesting story behind this fabulous concoction, and I'll let Scott tell it in his own words:
On Manhattan's Upper East Side (62nd Street between 1st and York), there is an organic market run by a former cook of His Holiness, The Dalai Llama. He is about 60 years old, but doesn't look a day over 40 (no doubt due in part to about a gallon of wheatgrass juice a day). His name is Tenzin, and about three years ago I tried one of his delicious creations that he calls a breakfast shake. Instantly, I was hooked. And now my wife and I have adopted it as a staple in our diets, though with all respect due to Tenzin, we call it our Spinach Smoothie.
Here's the recipe...
Energizing Spinach SmoothieThanks to Scott for sharing this truly healthy energy drink. If you have a recipe for something along the same line, use the comment link below to share it with the tens of thousands of Natural Health Circus readers around the world!
Fresh spinach
1/2 large papaya
1 handful of parsley
1 handful of dandelion root
1 or 1 1/2 bananas
Freshly squeezed juice of 4 oranges
To make it, fill your blender about halfway with fresh spinach. Add one half of a large papaya, and a handful each of parsley and dandelion root. Add at least one banana (we prefer one and a half). Pour in fresh-squeezed orange juice about three fingers high on the blender. This is about the juice of four oranges, although admittedly, we sometimes cheat and use the "fresh frozen" type. Then blend until smooth.
If you love it, as I am sure you will, stop in and thank Tenzin Llama the next time you find yourself raw in the Big Apple.

Hi Chet,
This sounds like a real great tasting energy booster. I'll write down 'SPINACH' in my grocery list for tomorrow.
Even greater than that, I liked your comment on 'the unhealthy' energy drinks you can buy in stores. Or should I say 'draining drinks'. Loaded with sugar and caffeine, they burn you up and leave you tired.
Here is my recipe (I can't remember where I stole it). The star is one of my favorite super food, avocado.
Avocado Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 Avocado
1 Cucumber
1 Can of Coconut Milk (approximately 275ml)
1 Lime
1 Handful of Spinach Leaves
6 Ice Cubes (optional)
Directions:
Place all ingredients into your blender and blend on high for 3 minutes.
Serve immediately or store in your refrigerator for consumption later in the day. It will be necessary to stir or give your smoothie a very quick blend before serving later in the day to mix the ingredients.
Hope you enjoy,

Hi,
Thanks for the info about the energy drink in the newsletter today. I am always on the search for an energy drink! I can't use this recipe on account of the spinach and the vitamin K factor as I am prohibited from boosting my K because I need to keep my blood on the thin side. What can I sub the spinach with?
www.joygoround.com/blog
in response to joy.. i've heard that ppl use cayenne pepper to keep the blood thin. also alfalfa tablets. spinach is so healthy, i wouldn't want to keep that out of a good diet. just an idea!
Hi Chet,
Your smoothie recipe sounds great and I have all of the ingredients except Dandelion root. Where do you get yours in the winter?
Hi, I didn't know about the alfalfa tablets. I had only heard about ginger and I put those snaps in my diet regularly. I know what you mean about keeping spinach out of your diet. It is very frustrating. I love all the green leaves, kale, spinach, mustard, polk, turnip. If I wanted to be on a committed regimen of having a needle stuck in me every week, I'd be able to eat as I please. Plus I would have to take warfarin every day. So for now, I'm just on some aspirin, ginger, and doing without my lovely greens too often. I agree about those danged health drinks that are loaded with sugar. I have found 2 products that I like for shake making and they have powdered milk in them and do not have a dra of vitamin K added. So I'm happy about that for now :) thanks
