Colon Cleaning the H&B Way

If you don't move your bowels two or three times a day, the odds are excellent you're suffering from chronic constipation.

A healthy person will eliminate food and waste 16 to 24 hours after eating. The average American takes 92 hours.

To test your bowel transit time, eat corn and see how many hours before it shows up in your feces. Or if you don't like corn, eat a large serving of beets and wait for a red stool to arrive.

Modern people eat on the run and have terrible bowel habits, often times ignoring the urge to go and thus contributing to constipation and other bowel problems.

Though I personally think it's best to solve constipation problems by eating and living properly, I also think it's wise to go through a good colon cleaning program two or three times a year.

Below I share a variation of a number of popular ones.

GENERAL CLEANSING PROGRAM

Follow the Health & Beyond Living to the Max program. Eating this diet helps in the cleansing process. Abstain from soft drinks, coffee, candy, and dairy products other than health food store yogurt, buttermilk, and butter -- and keep them to a minimum.

Drink eight to ten glasses of water every day, as well as fruit and vegetable juices.

There are three cycles to this program: cleansing, maintenance, cleansing.

Cleansing
Take the recommended serving (found on label) of your favorite colon cleansing product two times a day until your eliminations are a lighter color.

Maintenance
Take the recommended serving of your favorite colon cleansing product once a day for one month.

Cleansing
Take the recommended serving of your colon cleansing product two times a day until your eliminations return to a lighter color.

Continue this rotation until you feel lighter and "cleaned out." This feeling of being clean is hard to describe, but you'll know it when it happens. At this point, your stools will become lighter more quickly after maintenance and you will take the cleansing serving less often.

From this point on, use your favorite colon cleansing product as you feel it's necessary.

If you're following the Health & Beyond Living to the Max program, your diet will contain lots of fiber and you won't need to use the product as often as those who return to conventional eating.

INTENSIVE CLEANSING PROGRAM

For those who want a more aggressive cleansing, the following formula is effective. You should stay at home when following this program because you'll need ready access to a bathroom.

FORMULA
Your favorite colon cleansing product (serving size according to weight as found on label)
4 oz. (120 ml) cold, purified water
4 oz. (120 ml) apple juice

Blend well

WEEK ONE
Choose one day to perform an aggressive cleansing. On this day, take the above formula every two hours until you have taken it five times. Consume at least 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of distilled or purified water. You may take a super green drink like Dr. Kim's Greens or have vegetable juice anytime, but do not eat any solid food during the day. In the evening, have a small meal -- a large salad and some steamed vegetables. Take a quality probiotic (at least four capsules) before retiring at night. For the rest of the week, take the recommend servings of your favorite colon cleansing product.

WEEK TWO
Follow the Week One regimen for two consecutive days and for the rest of the week take the recommended servings of your favorite colon cleansing product fifteen minutes before two meals per day.

WEEK THREE
Follow the Week One regimen for three consecutive days and for the rest of the week take the recommended servings of your favorite colon cleansing product
fifteen minutes before two meals per day.

If your bowels become too loose during the program, cut back on the amount of the colon cleansing product you're using.

After the three-week program, continue taking the recommended serving of your favorite colon cleansing product before two meals. Do this for three to six months until your stool is light and well-formed.

After this initial cleansing program, take the recommended serving of your favorite colon cleansing product one time per day for maintenance. You may use your favorite colon cleansing product as long as you wish. Some people only use it during cleansing periods several times a year; others use it every day; others use it only when they eat constipating meals.
