Overcoming Shyness:

Overcoming Shyness

by Nicky Rogers

Are you one of those people who turn red in the ears, lose their breath, go speechless, and tremble in the knees under certain circumstances? I bet you think it's one of the worst things that can happen to you. Guess what? That's not true.

Let's talk about shyness. Shy folks are those people who go to the supermarket and are too anxious to talk to the salesperson. No matter how hard they try to project themselves and feel confident, it gets worse every time. The more they try not to blush, the redder they become.

Now let's move onto work. Yes, we shy people have to work as well. But they say shy people never get bored, as they are always trying to observe others and improve themselves. That is why it is widely accepted that timid people know a lot of things about human character in general, although they normally don't dare to get in contact with many people... ergo, the Nick Carraway complex, the strong, listening narrator to the flamboyant Great Gatsby. Despite the fact that during teenage years many shy folk were in hell, some grew up as great human resource managers or psychologists. This happened because being left outside the group, a person tends to analyze the others better. Also some tend to choose careers that require a lot of social challenges, just because they need to prove to themselves they can do it. How many Marines do you know who were not the hardcore soldiers they appear now but the quiet, frightened lambs they were once in high school?

Here's another great thing about us introverts- we are usually curious and start reading books or delve into the internet at young ages. As a result, shy people have all the opportunities in the world to get good positions in almost any field. They are hard working, they rarely cause problems, and they can be loyal.

Furthermore, timid people have started to rejoice because their abilities are becoming more widely appreciated. Did you know the more aspiring shy people actually have more contact with the public than the rest of us normally do? This happens because shy people give others a feeling of serenity - they don't seem capable of talking over somebody else's private issues, i.e., Nick Carraway once again.

An old Klingon homily says very high hills were designed for shy women. They need to prove they can do it, and by it I mean they can do absolutely anything if they are motivated well enough. These kinds of people are fighters, so if you are member of this esteemed group don't be embarrassed or put down by the extroverted world! Your group-mates are among the most powerful people (on the Meyers-Briggs personality assessment, the INTJ category is sometimes called the "Field Marshall" personality).

Now for the rest of us, I would say being a little shy from time to time could bring out some great results!

The key word to your success is dare to achieve, and you'll see the rest takes care of itself as long as you keep those shy women and those very high hills in mind.
