Sodium
Laurel Sulfate:
Why
Sodium Laurel Sulfate Should Be Avoided
by

Sodium
Laurel Sulfate is a chemical filler used in soap, shampoos and conditioners, clothes
detergent, and toothpaste. It probably wouldn't get very much attention if it
wasn't for the sheer quantity this chemical is used in skin care products.
If
you look at an ingredient label I would bet you have a 90% chance of seeing Sodium
Laurel Sulfate on the label. I would also hazard a guess that the products that
contain it will have SLS listed on the label within the top 5 ingredients.
This
is what's so harmful about Sodium Laurel Sulfate - the sheer quantity this chemical
is used in products and exposed to our bodies.
You
see, Sodium Laurel Sulfate is a known irritant. It's used in large quantities
because it's the chemical that creates the foam, or lather you feel when you use
soap or shampoo on your hair. An added plus for manufacturer's is that it's cheap
to fill up most of a skin care product with Sodium laurel Sulfate. Most manufacturer's,
unfortunately, don't care if they're putting a potentially harmful chemical in
your shampoo so long as it only costs them about 15 cents to create it.
As
I found on Wikipedia.com, so far Sodium laurel Sulfate is linked to mouth ulcers
caused by toothpaste and is shown to cause skin irritation or contact dermatitis
in individuals sensitive to the chemical.
But
this information is found from only two studies - 2 studies! This chemical is
everywhere and in everything. Don't you think we should know what exactly it's
doing to our bodies?
If
you value your skin and health and wanted to elliminate just one harmful chemical
from your life, I would suggest starting with Sodium laurel Sulfate. It's a real
challenge to elliminate SLS from your home, but I think it's worth it. No other
chemical is being used in such large quantities on your skin, and without knowing
the full ramifications this chemical could have, why take a chance?
So
I guess the most harmful thing about Sodium Laurel Sulfate is what we don't know
about it.
But
we do know how to elliminate it! By purchasing products that don't contain this
chemical in the ingredient list! You can get started today because L'Bri now offers
Sulfate Free shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Check
